Our Story
Who we are
The Center for Urban Transformation Chicago (CUT), founded in 2000, is dedicated to advancing ecologically sound solutions for urban health and well-being through research and community collaboration. Guided by principles of environmental, social, and economic justice and rooted in earth-based Indigenous systems of thought and action, CUT promotes the well-being of all life. Our work reflects these founding ideals, focusing on urban farming and gardening, food literacy, and the vital connection between food systems and healthy communities.

What we do
CUT is committed to developing programs, partnerships, and multimedia content that foster a shift toward ecologically and life-centered systems for future generations, human and beyond. Our initiatives include the Roots Watering Hole podcast series; the Narratives and Nourishment program supporting intergenerational neurological and cognitive development; the African Diaspora and Heritage Crop program; the ReRooting Kinship program, which reconnects humans with all life; and the forthcoming Earth Medicines program, offering resources for healing and well-being through herbal medicine, movement, meditation, sound healing, and global health practices that nurture Oneness among all beings.
